The History of Bingo – It Started Out as a Lotto 

The closest resemblance with have to the current game of bingo we play lies in the annals of bingo history with the reunification of Italy. It is said that the 16th century “Lo Giuoco del Lotto D’Italia,” is the closest cousin to the online bingo we play. Bingo history is both long and interesting and as the game travelled around Europe before arrival on our fair shores; it was used to teach children language and arithmetic skills. Bingo is actually still used for teaching purposes today!

Bingo history tells us it was a game for noblemen in France, and that it went to America first. We find this very hard to believe, except that perhaps, bingo as a commercial venture was available in the US first. Certainly this is makes much more sense than believing it went the long way around right from its roots.
